The reality is that repetitions are very different to listeners than panic-based hard silent blocks with a full range of unexpected avoidances. Someone wants to say : oh wow! You like folk music too? Have you ever been to the Bluesky Folk Festival? They could say it with lots of repetitions OR they could end up saying “oh wow! You like……(*hard eye blinks, hand slaps your thigh*) FOLK musictoo? Have you ever been to………….(*same behaviors as before, but this time it doesn’t come out*)….ummmm…that….um….festival? With folk music? Those present a very different message to a listener. I spoke that way for years before I learned better habits to dramatically reduce the blocks. I often gave up mid sentence or pretended to forget, etc. I bet OP was describing not able to say what he wants.
