Although I'm sure many who don't stutter would say you made the wrong decision, as one with one, I'd say it's very hard to say that you did. I can fully understand the logic behind such a decision despite knowing deep down that it was the wrong one. I personally could have never spoken in front of that many as a high school student. As an adult now, if forced, I could do it as long as all I had to do was read, but a speech off the cuff? Absolutely not.
