This is one of the most infuriating things! So my stutter was from a brain injury with worsening other issues from said brain injury and I had to see a neurologist like ASAP. He was the only one I could into right away which should’ve been red flag 🚩 number one. Anywho he looks at my husband NOT me during the appt and says “has she always talked this fast” which my husband confirmed yes lol (speedy Gonzales over here.)Then he looks at me and says “have you ever just tried to slow down” Mind you I did speech therapy and completed it because this was as fluent as I was going to get at this point. I told him when I slow down I experience more blocks with even more repetition.Through speech therapy I found my normal frequency even though I stutter still consistently was much better than me blocking with slow pronunciations. It just drives me bonkers.
