I think people in general can have a very limited understanding of stuttering. I am a graduate student clinician studying Speech language pathology. I only have one fluency client on my case load right now, but we spend so much of our time in clinic just talking about how he feels. We did the "Iceberg of stuttering" analogy last week and it really helped him understand his emotions. The idea is that stuttering is like an iceberg, you can only see just the tip of it.
