I hope you are learning that many of us suffer with an invisible and misunderstood type of disability from having a stutter that is probably much worse than yours. I hope you are also learning that it is definitely possible to learn how dramatically decrease the hard blocks that can eventually lead to severe avoidance behaviors (sometimes even total isolation). After seeing a few SLP’s who didn’t know any of this and who treated by mental dysfluency as if it were an artic disorder, like many of us, I got worse. Eventually I found a free podcast by a SLP/PWS who basically taught me to do the opposite - do controlled voluntary repetitions, make eye contact, enunciate, talk on exhales, begin slowly. It was scary at first, but I quickly saw dramatic and sustainable results.
