Interesting - sadly, i really don't know if i could make myself that vulnerable. However, recently (F' 24, about 1 yr after getting diagnosed*) in a very small class (about 10 students) I did disclose my issues with Dyslexia and ADHD. (* I was diagnosed with both about 2 yrs ago). Some students were struggling with studying for exams... we had a group "heart to heart" and one student disclosed they had ADHD. Since they made themselves vulnerable to me (and the rest of the class), i decided it made great sense to share my situation. It was met with great compassion - i was truly amazed at how kind and supportive the students were! But - i simply do not think i could disclose my history with stuttering. Note: am fully aware that students talk and there are various systems by which students can "post" reviews of professors. I am pretty confident that my diagnoses have "made the rounds" - but, i knew that would be the case. I had previously disclosed my "discoveries" to my department chair - who is very kind/supportive!
