Everyone is different and follows their own path as a PWS. When I turned 40, I made a conscious decision to face my stutter and embrace it. Every challenge, wall or conflict I encountered, I faced it and got through it. To make a blanket statement that 'stutterers are respected when they come to terms with it in front of their peers ' is not productive because we all have our own cross to bear. Every stutterer should be respected either way because the hidden struggle is very real and the goal is survival. We are all in this together and unconditional support is what is needed. I understand your logic that facing your fears is important but its equally important that all of our journeys are as diverse as we are.
