Stuttering is largely self diagnosed / self reported. I don’t know how they got their data to conclude that it’s 1% of the adult population so you may be right. I also think most people who have a stutter whether mild or covert would still admit to having a stutter even though it probably goes unnoticed by the rest of the population.
