Does stuttering come under disabilities when applying for a job?

Does stuttering come under disabilities when applying for a job? Some ppl tel me that stuttering is a disability, others say its not one according to US laws etc. My Questions is, can i check the box for disabilities when im applying for jobs? Or will that not be considered a disability and instead look bad on my application that I tried to make it look like a disability (which it is btw, but just not as recognised)
