We are our own worst critics. My childhood was devoid of acceptance after I started stuttering. I stopped feeling loved by my parents and have associated stuttering with shame. There are so many behaviors worse than stuttering but we concentrate on what’s caused us the most embarrassment. My psychotherapist mentioned radical acceptance, but I'm still trying to find relief. Maybe acceptance is helpful but I'm still counting on successful treatment. Google: Dr. Gerald Maguire. He's successfully using medication to treat stuttering. I have an appointment. I'll keep everyone in the loop.
