You are not alone. And there definitely is hope. Unfortunately if “suck it up” was going to work, it would have worked by now. “Telling someone to “Slow down” is not actionable advice or a long term solution. I was your age when I participated as a client for a university’s research for stuttering. Graduate students taught me what was at that time (and maybe still is) the best practice: easy onset, reduced rate, and smooth transition. I still use those tool today. I say all that because it was free: I got therapy and the students could use my data in their papers. While I certainly hope you spontaneously recover, it may get to a point where that won’t happen. If you are a lifelong stutterer, you can either accept the status quo or seek therapy. If I were you I’d reach out to any university who can provide free therapy in person or via Zoom. If you get sick enough of the stuttering eventually you’ll have to try new methods. The three tools I listed above work.
