Speech therapy for adults Background: I'm 24 years old and I feel like my stutter is controlling my life. I don't want to live my life in fear of stuttering. I mostly only blocks and these blocks are pretty severe. I stutter in scenarios where I say my name, ordering food, etc. Explaining something or telling a story makes the stutter so much worse to the point where I can't even get through a sentence without stuttering. Looking at my stutter objectively, I believe I need to manage my breathing as well as build my confidence back up. Maybe I'm stuttering because I don't feel confident in what I'm saying??? Question: I've searched online for speech therapy around me and Yelp provides a list of clinics. They seem to be geared towards children and I'm not sure if they treat adults? I can already anticipate stuttering on the phone when I call them tomorrow haha. I feel like I know what I need to work on but would like professional advice/techniques on tackling these issues. Do you recommend me trying speech therapy or try to grind this problem out on my own.
