A bit older than you, but I face the same issues and did face the same issues in high school. Introduction classes were and are the worst for me. My heart pumps so fast while I’m introducing myself to the class that I actually sweat. I’ve tried to get some insights into why this happens. This is what I’ve come up with: 1. I presume that people will make fun of me and won’t wait for me to finish my sentence, and I try to hurry and the stutter gets even worse. Remember that you’re worth being listened to. Your opinions and voice matters. Might sound a bit dramatic, but this is the core that I’m trying to follow. 2. Being organised in mind earlier doesn’t help as it all goes to waste when I try to speak. I just pause a lot while I’m talking. I’m so used to watching TV shows and movies that I think that I have to have a quick remark/ comment ready the moment I’m asked something. That’s not the case, take your time. Start with something you’re comfortable speaking. I usually start with my background info while I’m introducing myself (and not with my name as I stutter speaking that), and as I get more comfortable around the person I start speaking more fluently (but still stutter). These are some tips and hacks I’ve been trying to use. I really hope this helps. I know that what we all experience is very different but reading through this might help you how to introspect on your own stuttering and develop your own hacks. ✌️
