Wow! I imagine your professor was trying to make it seem like your stutter didn't have to be a problem, but failed to recognise that it was a problem for you, thereby invalidating your experience, which is the exact opposite of what she was seemingly trying to do in terms of offering support. I'm glad you expressed yourself and hope that she understood. I agree that more awareness and understanding would be of great benefit for us and for society. But I've thought deeply about stuttering for decades as no-one could actually help, and when I do share my understanding, my comments don't seem to get much traction, so I guess either my understanding applies to few people, or most people are not receptive to my kind of deep thinking. It's easier to share with one person who doesn't have any understanding of the struggle than to share with many people who have some understanding and experience, but are on a different stage of the journey or have different perceptions. As for educating the masses, I could only share my experiences and my understanding, and couldn't claim to speak for all people who stutter.
