Anyone here from a third world country? Since most of the posts here seem to be from the US or Canada, I think it would be nice for us that come from third world countries to share our experiences, as our cultures are probably different (so the stigma towards PWS might also differ), also the availability of treatment and therapy might differ from those in first world countries. I guess I'll start with a short summary of my own experiences. I live in Indonesia where I think stuttering is something rarely talked about. Personally I've never met another pws, I've know they existed from second-hand accounts (the friend of my friend ....). Also compared to the US (as I lived there during my early childhood, although that was before I stuttered), here I think verbal communication is used a lot more, for example most shops here are like newspaper stands where you have to ask the vendor for what you want instead of taking it yourself and putting it on a cashier. Another example is the public transport system, where we mainly use this thing called 'angkot' which is basically a minivan with seats configured to seat about 10 people. The problem with these is that you have to actually shout at the driver to stop when you arrive at your destination, so sometimes I get a speech block when I'm about to tell the driver I want to get off and end up getting off 100 meters away from my destination. One more thing, there's this famous comedian who usually stutters for comedic effect which basically does no favours for people who actually stutter (and acting like an idiot the rest of the time certainly doesn't help). I think most people only know about stuttering from watching him on tv. Which kinda sucks, but I guess it's not that big of a problem these days. Sorry for my somewhat messy post, I should be getting to sleep by now lol
