If it's many years ago, you should try again. People change and that affects the therapy situation. To repeat: _You're not causing your stutter_. But you could work on figuring out how to handle it better, when it happens. There's no need to interpret your situation like "overthinking" or "lack of confidence". If all it took for stutterers to stop stuttering was to "stop thinking" or "get confident", we would've solved everything by now. But that's not the mechanism. So don't blame yourself there. :)
