You have to look at those uncomfortable exercises as a necessary evil. My old therapist framed it like exercise. We have weak uncoordinated muscles for speaking and the first few weeks of forced exercise is going to drain us and we’re not going to like it. But after 8 months of doing it my family members started noticing a dramatic difference in my fluency, even before I noticed it. Mind you this was over 10 years ago and I’ve regressed since then since I haven’t kept up with the exercises and recording myself ordering food, etc. But at least I know it’s possible. It just takes a lot of work on our end, much like getting in shape.
