As of today, my husband (52) has started the ecopipam trial here in Southern CA. His doctor said there are only 68 people nationwide accepted in the study. 14 years ago my husband was also a part of a National study using Abilify for stuttering. The Abilify was successful for a long time and then it wasn’t. He ALSO had one of those “miracle ear” devices (as shown on Oprah) that truly was miracle for about 5 minutes. In an office setting my husband could hear whispers across the room. It gave him severe headaches and anxiety. That was an out of pocket expense $4000. He has had a moderate to severe stutter since the age 6. In my own research I discovered a link to children who were naturally LEFT handed, being forced to use their RIGHT hand in early education. It was a very common practice to tie down the left arm to the body as a means of “training”. My husband was one of those kids. The left and right brain hemispheres are connected by nerve fibers known as the Myelin Sheath. These fibers continue to develop and connect up thru age 24. They are literally a BRAIN BRIDGE carrying information back and forth. Imagine an innocent kid, who has a natural tendency to use his BAD HAND for scribbles, coloring and eventual writing. Restriction of these vital developmental connections literally caused this disability for countless people. We are hoping this new study will be beneficial for the long term.
