I had a similar experience where I had to visit my family in another country for a month and I had to talk and hold a conversation with dozens of people. At first, I literally could not get more than 3 words out without stuttering and people would pick on me constantly but some of my close family was very patient with me. At the end of the holiday, I could talk about everyday topics and even discuss passionately without stuttering even once. Not even once. The improvement was absolutely insane. That was 3 years ago and I still think about that experience to this day. What to take away from OP’s post and my comment? If people make fun of you, tell them to f*ck themselves
