Advice please! Visiting a friend with a stammer

Advice please! Visiting a friend with a stammer I studied in Italy and made friends with C. She’s got a stammer which affects her every day life. She stammers on words and sounds, and repeats herself. I’ve been reading up on how to help someone with a stammer, and been given lots of conflicting advice! I haven’t seen C for 17 years. When I was in Italy with her, google was in its infancy and so I didn’t know how to help. I’ve never spoken to her, or heard her speak for 17 years. But she texted me saying she was excited to see me and that had made her stammer worse, so it hasn’t gone away. So please, just a few general rules of thumb would help. I don’t want to patronise, or repeat things she’s already heard. Just some practical tips would be great. Thank you x UPDATE: I visited C and it was fantastic! She hasn’t changed at all. Her stammer was actually a lot less severe and I spoke upfront about do you want me to help with words or not so I had a good base. I listened patiently, I didn’t look at her mouth and we got on fine, it was great! Plus Verona is lovely.
