It's not about being *smart*. This has nothing to do with common sense, which I'm sure most of us have. It's about being broke, and friendless, and loveless, and destitute, and unable to connect with other people, and feeling isolated from the world, and thinking that your stutter is the only thing standing between you and a life that isn't agonizingly distant and bare, and all these feelings lowering your bar for what's reckless and what isn't, if it means trying something that could maybe possibly cure your stutter. We're a vulnerable population here, ripe to be scammed, not because we're blubbering morons, but because some of us are just that desperate. And yes, as mods, we would very much like to protect those people. There is nothing even remotely wrong with that.
