"did you forget your name?" I work in retail and oh boy is it rough. My stutter takes the form of speech blocks and singular repeat stutters (like di- did you need help?) People don't seem to notice it much when I'm in one on one conversations and I can normally play it off like I just forgot what I was trying to say. BUT when customers ask for my name I always, always stutter. And it's super obvious. My throat closes up, I freeze, I just can't get it out. And if I do I stumble over it so much. The most common response is of course "haha, did you forget your name there?" So now if they do that I've taken to deadpanning "No, I have a speech impediment that makes it very hard to introduce myself to people". Whatching how uncomfortable and flustered people get after that almost makes up for the embarrassment and mortification that they've caused me... almost...
