I wish I knew sign language even if I or we stutterers are not deaf!!! I stutter nasty!! I always assumed and thought sign language was for deaf people....I never assumed or thought sign language is for those who can't speak as well. I never learned sign language as a child--I was never taught. Probably because I don't have an interpreter...sign language users need an interpreter....also many people simply don't know what a signing person is saying....a listener sees a signing person and has no idea what the person is saying with their hands. So yes...signing would be great help for those with bad stuttering issues so they could communicate...but many listeners would have no idea what we were doing or saying with our hands...and many folks simply don't have the patience to try to understand what we are saying!!!! Who could be an interpreter??? Maybe a stutterer could pass as a deaf person without being deaf and simply NOT speak at all!!! But as I said...many don't understand what is being said by a person who signs...especially if they don't have an interpreter!
