We are on the same page. I too like the way it made me think of stuttering. The UAE stuttering association considers stuttering an accent rather than a disability. And that is the crux of what he is getting at but conflates the two ideas badly. 1. 1 idea talks about stuttering as disability that needs to be accommodated so its no longer a disability. This has been the mantra of the differently-abled movement who say for instance "just because I cant walk, doesn't mean I'm immobile. Let me have a wheel chair accessible building and I'll get there after than you. " 2. The second idea talks about stuttering not being a disability at all- just like deaf people or neurodivergent people. Its just a normal variant and the disabled part is the result of not treating is as such. Like the deaf people saying; We dont need to hear, we dont need your language, we have our own and its perfect." You see how these are 2 different positions? one is dependent upon society's acceptance, the other is not. Sorry of I'm being pedantic, you can tell me to STFU, I wont be mad.
