Hi! I also am a 19-year-old with ankyloglossia. Today, most babies get the frenulum (the tethering skin) trimmed at birth, however, I think this is fairly recent in most places as both my brother (born 1995) and I have ankyloglossia, while my sister (born 2011) had her frenulum trimmed. I think that, yes, it, as well as excessively rapid speech, affect my speech significantly. I tend to restart sentences 2-3 times often, and I also tend to prolong the consonant sounds of *f* and *s* (leading to things like *Fffffriday* and *Sssssunday).* From what my dentist has told me (because he offers to trim the frenulum every time I go in), it's a quick procedure, especially with access to laser equipment. He did mention to me that there would be a short adjustment period, however, where the increased mobility of the tongue would require some relearning of speech and eating without biting the tongue. I personally am not planning on getting mine trimmed, but, if you do get yours done, I'd love to hear the results on your mouth and your speech!
