Circumnavigation is happening always. I often don't order what I want at restaurants and opt instead for what's easier to say. I find myself abbreviating or shortening things in the strangest ways. I hate being asked what my favorite movie is. I have to say "Spotless Mind" because "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is a train wreck. I've found that I have my true preferences I hold internally and a memorized set of false favorites I recall when socializing. I would venture as far as to say there's a reasonable chance that, whenever you're talking to a stutterer, something has been altered or omitted to ease the tension of conversation to some extent. That's my experience, anyway.
