I saw my best friend today and practically became 75% fluent Y’all, I have no idea about what neurotransmitters are involved in speech and language, but now I’m 100% convinced that dopamine/serotonin are the top contenders. I’ve currently been taking supplements like 5-HTP (for serotonin support) and taking B-complex to see if that helps with my stuttering, but it has not had a tremendous effect. It has helped with my mood though, so it wasn’t all in vain! **I should probably mention that you should always ask a doctor if these supplements are right/safe for you to take. I only wanted to mention these in case someone wanted to try something that can boost your mood and is OTC** ☺️ During quarantine, I went from about 70-80% fluent at college to maybe 10-15% at home. I have no idea why I suddenly deteriorated but it just made me feel worse about my speech and made this vicious cycle of progressive disfluency. Recently, I’ve been going out for coffee with my dad and it’s definitely been helping but after a certain period of time of fluency I’d be back at square one. Today, I made plans with my best friend to go over to her house and hang out (outside with masks on + practicing social distancing of course) and the difference was incredible!! After a couple hours of hanging out with her and her brother (we’re all really close friends), I went home and started talking to my family like I barely had a stutter at all. It wasn’t perfect, but they were all shocked that I came back as a new, happy, and fluent(ish) person!! Anyway, moral of the story is that I believe that if someone on here needs some support (emotionally or fluency-wise), go out and see some people you love!! Just make sure to wear a mask and keep a proper social distance! Even if it’s driving to an isolated spot and yelling at each other from your cars, it can only do good for you :)
