I study sociology, my friend studies psychology and we talk about these things a lot. When assessing the social status of another person, the most important aspect that we consider (consciously or subconsciously) is how they carry themselves. A person with a healthy amount of self-esteem will always appear more cool and interesting than ones with too much or too little. External aspects like appearance or speech are secondary. And even among those, stuttering doesn't seem to be that big of a deal, compared to things like hight, body type, skin, hair, smell, even the pitch of your voice. These are all things that other people notice and give much more credit to than your stuttering. Most educated people just acknowledge that you stutter and then that's that. It doesn't define you.
