I second this. 26F and have a wonderful husband and a beautiful child and am currently a RN. What worked for me is giving people a heads up “don’t want it to take you by surprise, I stutter occasionally, especially if I haven’t slept well or long”. Although that’s not how stuttering works, they are not going to do that face everyone gives us like we are stupid when we do stutter. You can also throw in the joke which is supposedly proven people who stutter on average have a higher IQ than people who don’t. I have STILL NEVER met someone else who stutters. It is very isolating but you need to surround yourself with understanding people: not ignorant who think stuttering means you’re stupid or incompetent.
