In my experience, adult severe stuttering is not a very common phenomenon, so while being good-minded most people don't know how to react to a person struggling to get some words out of his/her mouth. Disclosing removes this problem while freeing you from the hard work of 'hiding' your stammer. So it makes you more comfortable.
