Starting work placement/anxiety and blocking on my name Hi everyone, I'm a Social Care student and in a few days I'm starting my work placement. I'm going to be involved in youth work for the first time ever. My previous placement was working with children(which I'm very comfortable with) What I'm struggling most with is, my name. I get a severe block on my name, I can usually say it eventually but the sheer panic I feel is overwhelming. I have a double barrel name and the past few years I can only get out the first part before the other person is looking at me strangely. I've been involved in speech therapy in recent years and my therapist has advised me to just stutter through my name.. not to worry about what people think. For the most part I've accepted my stutter, other days I honestly wish I could die. My family think my stutter is barely present anymore, much improved from when I was younger. My boyfriend has said to me that he thinks it's "adorable." Sweet but not exactly helpful. I feel like I'm getting a panic attack when I have to say my name, order food etc. My chest tightens, my breathing gets fast.. I want to escape. I'm just anxious for the coming days because I know during the three days of induction we have, I'll have to introduce myself to the young people/staff and peers I'll be working with - that thought alone is keeping me up at night. Has anyone any advice?
