People who stutter would do well to inform themselves as much as possible about those who overcame their stutter. It seems to be much less about strategies like using “slow easy speech,” like we may have been taught but about desensitizing oneself to stuttering. In other words “practicing stuttering” -first in private, then with trusted family and friends, on the phone, ordering in a drive through etc. Stuttering intentionally is scary but well worth it. It is the opposite of avoiding speaking situations and trying not to avoid stuttering. It seems to be the route to fluency.
