I wouldn't pay any mind to reddit upvotes. Oftentimes that just means you fell on the wrong side of groupthink. Don't take it personally. I previously looked into this and it seems like research on stuttering frequency tends to be based on a mix of self reporting, plus formal diagnosis. What's interesting is that statistics on this from studies in various different geographies seem to point to a similar range of 0.8-1.2% ish. I think this is likely because the majority of these studies use a similar methodology, and the imprecision of what "stuttering" even refers to is similarly at work here as an irksome confounding variable.
