It's really the only handicap that's moderately accepted to ridicule. Most people unless they're pure shit human beings never would make fun of a person in a wheel chair or other common handicaps. But stuttering is something people can laugh at. The problem is unless you go around telling everybody you meet that you stutter which is basically impossible your going to get insulted from time to time...more so when your around young people. In ny experience young people don't care if you have a handicap or not they're going to insult you. And if your in high school or college you can't assault or fight everybody without ruining your life. Unfortunately without doing something extreme your going to be a target for assholes and disrespect, that's just the way it is unless you want to keep on avoiding people....but i think most ppl if they know its a handicap they won't make fun of you, it's when people think your scared, nervous or don't know why your stuttering that's when they think your a amusing retard. Unfortunately it is what it is. If you don't like the way society treats you the only option is either find a way somehow to stop caring (which for me is impossible) or just stop being social all together. Unfortunately that's our reality :/
