I hear what you're saying, and stuttering definitely does suck for us. I think it can, and for some does play a role in depression and other mental health issues. I'm not anywhere near a specialist in that, so I won't try to be. For me though, I know the reality of my stutter. I know it sucks. I know it can limit me. That all being said, it doesn't make my outlook on life any less than great. Stuttering is, well, it is what it is. I've always saw it as everyone has their 'handicap' in life, ours is our stutter. As far as the job interviews and stuff, I hope they aren't hiring you purely because the stutter. I've found that stating something like 'Hey, I do stutter, and it's a LOT worse when I'm nervous, which I am. But it does not in any way effect my work ethic.' This usually makes you AND the interviewer feel more at ease. I've had several interviews in the past three months, all of which I said something to that extent. The latest one, and the one I was hired onto, said it wasn't a problem and that the work ethic spoke for itself. So I'm hoping for your sake those people either were just rare major assholes, or in the unlucky bit that they hired someone else more qualified. Whatever comes your way though, don't let the stutter define you as who you are.
