I joined this group when my brother (who stutters) used my phone to look at this a while back but I didn’t leave the group. I just want to give a point of view of someone who doesn’t stutter at how crazy it is to see yourself as a failure for not having fluent speech. My brother went through speech therapy for years and got so sick of the effort to speak fluently he just stopped trying and said fuck it I don’t care i would rather stutter than obsess about every sentence. And he still stutters but he literally doesn’t care any more, he calls it “stuttering with confidence” and to be honest it’s way more fluid than when he used to stress about it. I also worked with a guy who had a severe stutter, he was a waiter and spoke to people constantly and just stuttered through, he never avoided a situation and he was so confident about it. Nobody ever even mentioned it really! But anyway my point is, relax, I was in the service industry for years and when you see that volume of people every day you come across someone at least once a week with a severe stutter and we’re all used to it. Same as people answering phones all day I’m sure. I actually saw a comedian recently at a comedy club and he was great, and he stuttered through his set and wasn’t embarrassed he just got on with it. And for the odd idiot who hasn’t and treats you like you’re dumb it’s out of ignorance and please remember that person would treat ANYONE that is different badly, not just someone who stutters, they’re the people who make fun of someone who looks different or sounds different or acts different, it’s not just you, it’s totally their problem!
