My experience is that the only way for therapy to have affect is continuous daily work. I spent years going to a therapist in weekly sessions, it had no effect. I'm sure that SLP was clueless on how to treat stuttering as well. When I was 15 I spent one week in an intensive treatment program, it was amazing, and I went from severe to mild. The problem was there wasn't any follow up, and as far as I remember I wasn't given any tasks to do at home. It's 20 years ago.. With kids I think it's up to the parents, so I believe a therapist must involve and train the parents, and let the parents to the daily work with the kid. I wish the therapist had told my parents that, and had the knowledge to teach them the right things. We're doing that now with my son, and it's a 24/7 job.
