Got a new job.. I’m happy and worried sick at the same time Since Covid restrictions are slowly lifting up I was finally able to apply for tons of work and one company (an ice cream store) got back with me and hired me during my interview. Only problem is.. I’ll have to deal with the public sometimes aka being the cashier for some portions of the day. What worries me sick is having to talk to customers and stuttering while repeating an order or something as simple as asking if they want a receipt. I really don’t want to make a horrible first impression and slow progress down because of it. Now before you ask “why didn’t you apply for a job that doesn’t require much socializing”, this job is a miracle to me. I’ve been out of work for over a year and it’s been nothing but hard and painful, especially being so low on money. So of course I happily took the job. Even during the interview I was stuttering around 40% of the time but the manager seemed to not care. He just nodded along. I couldn’t even choke out my own name when he asked, ugh.. So the main question is: Has anyone here worked at retail before/currently working at retail? If so, what’s your advice for dealing with the public and trying to talk to others without stuttering? Or should I just accept it and try my best with this.
