Certain aspects of stuttering are generally “all in the head”. If you order coffee (or any order similar low stakes situation) and when they ask for your name, you instantly look away, get a panicky feeling, and nothing comes out for a few seconds (and your first thought is “I’m buying my own coffee maker”), I think it’s fair to say “that’s all in your head”. But the good news is there are habits you can learn to decrease that whole cycle. Yes, you will always need to practice those habits, you will always be prone to speaking with r-r-r-repetitions, but you can reduce the fear. This may not be your experience but it is relevant for many here. Would you be interested in my longer post about these habits?
