I dreaded having to take this class in college and put it off as long as I could. I didn't notify the instructor; I just did my speeches as expected and it was pretty obvious that I was a stutterer. At no time did the instructor bring it up with me during the semester or go easy on my grades for the speeches. Comments like "need to make more eye contact" don't really help at all. All I was thinking about was getting through the speech, not performing a masterful oration. To be honest, I don't understand why there's not some kind of exemption for this class. The universities bend over backwards to accommodate students with all kinds of special needs and disabilities, but somehow this doesn't qualify. I was close to having a panic attack before most of the speeches I had to give during college, including all of the speeches for other classes.
