How much do therapists and psychiatrists know about stutter?

How much do therapists and psychiatrists know about stutter? Hi everyone! I was thinking about a therapist I used to see a few months ago. She wasn't necessarily a bad therapist, I just feel like she wasn't educated on what a stutter is, at all. She kept going on about how stutter is totally a psychological condition. I told her I've had it pretty much since I could talk and that my dad has it as well- hence genes make up a part of what causes stutter, but it's not like there's a single cause. It's far more complex than that. She insisted that it's clearly mostly psychological- she tried to link it to the environment in which I grew up in. Sure, it didn't help, but still she was pretty much ignorant in this area. She also brought it up without giving me the time to open up by myself, which made me feel really uncomfortable. She just wasn't a good match . Luckily I found another therapist who I pretty much love. Anyway, the first therapist suggested to see a psychiatrist. This man just wasn't it. Not only was he totally incompetent on basic things such as zoloft doses, he argued that people that stutter tend to have OCD, and basically tried to convince me I have OCD. He also explained stuttering as something that has an "agressive" response, because the people who listen to someone that has a stutter get impatient therefore angry. I'm very happy I found and actual helpful psychiatrist after him. I would like to hear your experiences with therapists and psychtrists- I feel like they should have more knowledge on the subject. Thank you for reading :)
