This has reminded me of when I was in the swimming team in my teens. One time, before we got in, the instructor asked for a volunteer to help her with something. I was a teacher's pet so I would have been all "me me me!" But had a block and another girl spoke up first. Turned out the volunteer was needed to get in and fish a huge poop out of the pool with a float.
