I'm a high school teacher, and while sometimes the children would laugh at and gossip about my stuttering, it really didn't affect me much. The biggest influence is that I fairly often don't finish my thoughts, because people perceive my conversational pause when I stop to recoup before speaking again as a sign that I finished my thought.
