Asked if I was having a stroke at work I have had a stutter for as long as I can remember. Majority of people never comment on it. However, today is different. I'm a certified nursing assistant at a major hospital in my area. Before beginning my shift, we were all in the breakroom. I was discussing the days outlook with a nurse when another nurse had the audacity to ask, "Are you having a stroke or something? Why can't you just say it?" I was absolutely stunned. I have never been asked that. Thankfully, another coworker of mine stood up for me in a heartbeat explaining I have a stutter. The nurse chuckled and said, "oh wow, I'm sorry. I never knew" then proceeded to act as if nothing happened. Usually I'm able to roll comments off my back, pay no attention to them. I even don't mind if people ask me if I have a stutter. However, for whatever reason, the stroke question from the nurse really hit me. I haven't been this bothered in a long time. I'm currently in the bathroom crying. I don't know what to do.
