I am so sorry to hear this happened to you. I can assure you of one thing, you are NOT crazy, my friend. We are many out there that stutters and we don’t stutter because it is something specific we have done. Your mom is simply ignorant and you need to try to talk about this with another adult because I guess this is not the last outrage you will see from your mom. I guess you live in the US and I don’t know how it works there, but it would help you to talk to a speech therapist to get the support you need. Can the state pay for that? Your insurance? Seek help from another adult. People, like your mom, will have prejudices and we need to be able to brush that off. It’s hard but you can get there, I promise. Don’t sweat it, you are 17 and have a bright future ahead of you! The stutter is not what defines you, it is just a part of you.
