It works similar to the way that choral reading works, it plays your voice back to you with a very slight delay, so it tricks you into speaking "with yourself." Like I said, it helped me a lot to give presentations and such, but I found it distracting and impractical to wear day-to-day. It feels similar to wearing a hearing aid, so depending on how much you decide you need and rely on the device, the discomfort may outweigh the benefits. It's possible that the technology has improved since 2012, but in my experience it was difficult to wear in loud public places because it picked up background noise, so wearing it to (for example) go out with friends was nearly impossible. Also minor things like being limited to talking on the phone on only one side (the side you aren't wearing the SpeechEasy), having to take it out to listen to music or watch TV, etc. They say that the therapeutic effects work best if you wear it all the time, but logistically speaking it's just kind of a nuisance to wear all the time.
