Your post hits close to home and made me tear up a little. I also have my Masters in Counseling and the start of my career was rough. Job interviews were always super stressful, I definitely blew a few with my stuttering. I eventually got to the point where I just accepted I was going to stutter rather than hoping I wouldn’t, that actually seemed to take some of the pressure off. I’ve also told interviewers that I stutter when I’m nervous and that also helped. I ended up doing direct care for 25 years and now I have policy-influencing position in the government. I still get nervous with all the stupid Zoom calls, but I this career and the need to talk all the time has helped with my fluency I feel extremely confident in saying you’ll be an amazing counselor, so I hope you don’t give up. Our field needs empathetic people and it’s important work! Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any work-specific questions and best of luck!
