I believe my stuttering was caused because of all the childhood trauma Ive had to endure by the beatings from my father when I was a child. He, well, kind of put a big fear inside of me by using his fists on me whenever I wouldnt understane certain things in school etc. He'd rather slap me or call me by names and demotivate me rather than being understandable and helpful, use different methods to help a child out. But yeah, I also believe that it can be caused by social anxiety especially if there was PTSD from the past.
