in my thinking there are 3 types of stutters. 1. Theres the anticipatory stutter. You know its coming, you want to avoid it but you cant for whatever reason (your name), you've stuttered here a 100 times before, and this will be number 1001. Inevitable. 2. the maybemaybemaybe stutter. You are just going along and all of a sudden you see a word that may or may not trip you up so instead of avoiding you go for it and boom... you get stuck. You might try a little trick to get out and the tricks generally tend to work. 3. the surprise stutter. You have no idea its going to happen. you are getting by fine, then all of a sudden, out nowhere, it hits you, sometimes so hard your head kicks backs. Really the only thing is to slow down or stop, pull out, and try again. If you were slow(er) to begin with, you can most probably control it or make it seem like a natural pause. I do this a lot!!!
