I’m 18 as well and can relate A LOT to your post. My stutter got especially bad in the first months of quarantine, but have gotten better over time as I’ve gotten into routines in recent months. I think your issue is stemming from overthinking. By stressing about college and making friends, you are in a way creating your own problems. I’m not sure about you, but I think a lot of stutterers can agree that our fluency is at it’s best when we aren’t hyper aware, and when we can just relax and speak off the top of our heads. It’s only when we worry “oh no I’ll have to introduce myself soon” or “I want to talk to that cute person over there but don’t want to embarrass myself”. Get those thoughts out of your head as much as possible and stay busy in your own present moment that you can’t even worry about the future. It’s simple but not necessarily the easiest thing to do. If you want to more unconventional advice; I’ve been going on Omegle a ton in recent weeks, and having to introduce myself and start up conversations with complete strangers has improve my skills tremendously. Best of luck to ya, and welcome to the community!
